How does smart activation work?

The smart activation feature lets you automate:

  • The request to arm your security system when leaving
  • The disarming of your security system when arriving back home

 

This feature is available on:

  • Home Alarm
  • Home Alarm Advanced
  • One / One +
  • Somfy Indoor camera

The smart activation feature behaves differently based on whether or not the user has a keyfob.

 

Behavior with a keyfob

 

Using your keyfob (keyfob is associated with a user)

  • When you leave your home, you will automatically receive a notification prompting you to arm your security system.
  • When you arrive home, your alarm will automatically be disarmed when you enter through your IntelliTAG-equipped door.

 

With a smartphone only (installation with only camera)

 

You do not have a keyfob or your keyfob is not associated with a user.

The smart activation feature will work using your smartphone's geolocation.

  • When you leave your home, you will automatically receive a notification prompting you to arm your security system.
  • When you arrive home, your alarm will automatically be disarmed.

 

How does Somfy Protect determine whether or not I am home?

 

Smartphones use a combination of several technologies to determine your position, including GPS and cellular reception. The accuracy of location data varies depending on your smartphone model and some of its settings. 

In order for the smart activation feature to work, you must authorize the Somfy Protect app to use location services.

To do this, enable the automatic arming and/or disarming request to allow the Somfy Protect app to access your device's location. Otherwise, the feature will be disabled. 
You also need to locate your home through the Somfy Protect app.

Note
You can also go into the app's advanced settings, through your iOS or Android settings, to authorize the app to use location services.

 

Note that you will always receive a notification prompting you to arm the system when you leave, even if others are still at home.

 

How to set up smart activation

 

To set up smart activation, open the Somfy Protect app and go to the "Settings" menu.

  1. Select "Smart Activation."
  2. If this is the first time, you will need to authorize the app to access your smartphone's location services.
  3. This settings screen allows you to turn smart activation and deactivation on or off. The process differs depending on whether or not you have a key fob.
  4. Activation and deactivation are divided into two selectors:
  • Activation: Decide whether you wish to arm your motion detector/alarm when you leave (via notification).
  • Deactivation: Decide whether you wish to disarm your motion detector/alarm automatically when you return.
  1. If you have not yet specified your address, do so using the map editing screen:
  • The installation address is important, as automatic arming/disarming depends on whether or not you are at home.

Finally, note that smart activation will stop working if you log out of the Somfy Protect app.
